KM Ekranoplane da flying ship...also known as da "Caspian Sea Monster"

~saje nk kongsi mengenai kecanggihan teknologi from russia n memeriahkn thread...(aku harap xsalah thread)~

hybrid military vehicle..
bg aku antara hybrid vehicle yg digeruni suatu ketika dahulu n wt US Intel(cold war era) menggelabah dgn kewujudanye...
antara kecanggihan n aplikasi kejuruteraan yg bg aku amat menarik....
turbojet thrust that create lift for da massive n unique design of high speed inter region military transport(water transport)....

The strange-looking craft might seem like something from science fiction, but ekranoplans are real and the photograph is genuine. Although they may resemble aircraft, ekranoplans are in fact ground-effect vehicles that fly a few feet above any flat surface. Very basically, air compressed under a wing moving near the surface provides lift to the craft.

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past 2
1987 was the year when the first 350 tons ground effect “ship” from the series of Soviet battle missile carriers was produced. It was called Lun after the Russian name for a bird of prey - hen harrier. Another name for this vehicle was Project 903. It carried 6 Moskit cruise missiles (SS-N-22 Sunburn in NATO classification). Hitting four of them causes inevitable sinking of a vessel of any know type and size. The second Lun-class battle aircraft was supposed to be produced in several years but due to the end of cold war and partial disarmament the project was changed to a rescue aircraft and it was never finished.

This type of vehicle called in Russian ekranoplan uses so called ground effect - extra lift of large wings when in proximity to the surface. For this reason they have been designed to travel at a maximum of three meters above the sea but at the same time could provide take off, stable “flight” and safe “landing” in conditions of up to 5-meter waves.

These crafts were originally developed by the Soviet Union as high-speed military transports, and were based mostly on the shores of the Caspian Sea and Black Sea. In 2005 crafts of this type have been classified by the International Marine Organization so they probably should be considered flying ships rather than swimming planes. It is also interesting to note that this aircraft is one of the largest ever built, with a length of 73.8 meters (comparing with 73 of Airbus A380)

Functionally the body of this strange ship was divided into 4 parts: fore, middle, after-part and keel together with stabilizer. Fore part possesses pilot house and a pillar holding 8 main engines, as well as a room with secondary ones. Middle and after parts were fully equipped with test facilities but still have also a caboose and a toilet. The whole keel is filled with power installation for electricity supply during mooring and a complex of radio navigation and communication equipment. A room for a gunner is placed in a cross-line of keel and stabilizer at a height of 12 meters over the waterline.
The ecranoplan’s crew consisted of 7 officers and 4 warrant officers. It could be absolutely autonomous for 5 days.

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past 10

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past 15
Eight of the engines were mounted near the vehicle's nose so that their thrust could be deflected underneath the wing to create an initial cushion of air that raised the KM out of the water. Once the craft was traveling fast enough that the wings generated sufficient lift to keep the vehicle above the water, the thrust was redirected aft to increase velocity. When the boat moves, these wing create lift that pulls the boat hull up and out of the water and allows the craft to cruise at higher speeds.

powered by a whopping 10 turbojet engines and weighed up to 540 tons.

During the mid-1960s chilly height of the Cold War, US photo reconnaisance spotted a strange apparition on the shores of the Caspian Sea - a gigantic 100m-long aircraft with inexplicably truncated square wings. US Intelligence dubbed the beast the "Caspian Sea Monster", unaware that the Russians were developing not, as they thought, an enormous conventional seaplane, but rather a 550-ton water-hugging behemoth designed to use the ground effect to skim the ocean at high speed, undetected by radar.

USSR punya research mmg gila2 terutama pasal kapalterbang, perkapalan dan teknologi aeroangkasa, cuma tak berapa menyerlah samada tak jadi diteruskan sbb kos pembuatan yg sangat tinggi. Tengok aja kapalselam kelas typhoon dgn antonov yg masih beroperasi, sampai sekarang sesiapa yg tengok mmg buat orang ternganga mulut.

yup...agree....
bg aku pon, teknlogi ketenteraan Soviet dlm bidang2 aero n hydro mmg superb...
cume selalunye yg menjd maslah, dana yg berterusan utk diorang... xde peruntukan utk kos maintenance, n cut off peruntukan dr kerajaan utk sesuatu teknologi yg baru tu...
kebnyakn design2 n teknologi diorang melampui zaman tu, lebey2 lg time cold war era, mcm2 teknologi, varian n new model yg digeruni, dikeluarkn USSR....

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past Empty The TUPALEV family

Post by powerw00t Mon 26 Apr 2010, 8:43 am

a Russian Tu-95 Bear Bomber at high altitude off the coast of Alaska, seen from left, escorted by an F-15 Eagle. With eight propellers in four contra-rotating pairs and the most powerful turboprop engines ever built, the 1950s-era Tu-95 remains the fastest propeller-driven aircraft.

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past Tu-95_tail

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past Lineup_of_Tu-95_at_Engels_Air_Base

Present and future status

All Tu-95s now in Russian service are the Tu-95MS variant, built in the 1980s and 1990s. On August 18, 2007, then-President Vladimir Putin announced that Tu-95 patrols would resume, 15 years after they had been terminated.

Russian Tu-95s reportedly took part in a naval exercise off the coasts of France and Spain in January 2008, alongside Tu-22M3 Backfire strategic bombers and airborne early warning aircraft.

In October 2008, during a Russian military exercise code-named Stability 2008, Tu-95MS aircraft fired live air launched cruise missiles (ALCM) for the first time since 1984. The long range of the Raduga Kh-55 ALCM means the Tu-95MS Bears have been transformed once again into a formidable strategic weapons system.

The Bear TU 95 ni sikit masa kejatuhan USSR boleh dikatakan hampir2 decomm, tapi bila ekonomi Russia dah bertambah rancak dgn pegembangan industri petahanan, The Bear yg sepatutnya berada dimakam, tiba2 bangun kembali sehingga meronda2 dgn sengaja ke negara negara2 barat seperti US dan eropah seolah2 memberi mesej "I am back".

haha...aku pon bru nk upload psal typhoon class ni bro...
typhoon class...sub yg dibina utk membawa n melancarkn ballistic missile yg sememangnye ditarget utk memusnahkn bndar2 terpenting kt US.... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
US ckup takot dgn sub ni, sb US nye teknologi sub time tu pon xmampu nk kejar sovietnye...
sub plg besar(ballistic missile) yg de dlm inventori US pon cme de ohio class...
kelebihan pd typhoon, die leh menyelinap n timbul kt bongkah ais (hull design yg kuat n kukuh) serta mampu melancarkn Ballistic missile dibwah permukaan ais artik...

It can carry 20 ballistic nuclear missiles and there were only six of those built. Only 3 left intact, but are staying now out of service with armament control blocks detached according to the agreement between USSR and USA signed by M. Gorbachev.

xsilap aku, perjanjian ni dinamakan START (for Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty)..diantra Russia n US...bg mengurangkan n menghadkn pengoperasian aset2 pemusnah/penyerang strategik diorang yg sgt merbahaya tu...ini termsuk la, hadkan n kawal sub ballistic missile, nuclear warhead, bomber n ballistis missile tu sndri...LINK

START negotiated the largest and most complex arms control treaty in history

haha...nmpknye The Bear mmg dh kembali....tp cume aktif utk Russia je la..bukan untuk soviet union time era kegemilangan die..
The long range of the Raduga Kh-55 ALCM means the Tu-95MS Bears have been transformed once again into a formidable strategic weapons system.

n kebnyakn kes tahun 80 n 90an, Russia mmg sengaja menghantar pesawat ni utk provoke diorang...mmg ske cari nahas diorang ni...

Russian Orbital Battle Station Polyus

The monsters of USSR, blasts from the past 3984

It sounds like something from a James Bond movie: a massive satellite, the largest ever launched, equipped with a powerful laser to take out the American anti-missile shield in advance of a Soviet first strike. It was real, though—or at least the plan was. In fact, when Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev walked out of the October 1986 summit in Reykjavik, Iceland, because President Ronald Reagan wouldn't abandon his Strategic Defense Initiative, or SDI, the Soviets were closer to fielding a space-based weapon than the United States was. Less than a year later, as the world continued to criticize Reagan for his "Star Wars" concept, the Soviet Union launched a test satellite for its own space-based laser system, which failed to reach orbit. Had it succeeded, the cold war might have taken a different turn.

The Only Ukranian Submarine

The repair of the only Ukrainian submarine is finally over. Its activation will not only raise the security of the Ukrainian Black Sea Fleet but also let Ukraine be equal with its neighbors (Bulgaria, Romania and Russia) who already have one working submarine each. This post will tell you what this submarine is and what it was made for.

The submarine is called Zaporozhye and it is one of the diesel-electric patrol submarines of the Project 641 class (otherwise known as the Foxtrot class as well). Here’s a little history about it.

The first Project 641 submarine was finished in 1958 and the last one – in 1983. These submarines played an important role during the Cuban missile crisis. One of them nearly started the Third World War.

At that time the Soviet-American relations were very strained and some Foxtrot submarines loaded with missiles were patrolling the shores of Cuba. On the 27th of October in 1962 a group of 11 American destroyers and an aircraft carrier noticed one of the Soviet submarines and started dropping the depth charges to make it surface.

The captain of the submarine decided the war had broken out and commanded to be ready for firing missiles at the American ships. Fortunately, another officer, who was also aboard, persuaded the captain not to do this but surface and wait for orders from Moscow.

That’s how the Project 641 submarine nearly became Aurora of the nuclear war. Later the Americans admitted that the threat was much closer than everybody thought it to be and the guy whose name was Vasily Arkhipov literally saved the world.

At that time the Zaporozhye submarine hadn’t existed yet. It was launched on the 29th of May in 1970. Over the time of its service it made 17 distant cruises. But then with the appearance of the nuclear submarines the Foxtrot class submarines lost their importance and became “just good ships of the close-in zone”.

In 1990 Zaporozhye was transferred to the Black Sea and in 1997 Ukraine took it under its patronage. Since that moment it has never been launched anymore.

The picture is made in May of 2007.

In 2008 it was decided to find money for its repair which was going to cost about $2.4 million.

Though the submarine is already more than 40 years old it’s supplied with all the modern equipment and, from the military point of view, can be very effective in the Black Sea as it’s hard to be noticed.

The first tie-down tests were successful. All the systems of the ship work properly. But it will have to pass some more tests before being finally put to sea.
