Official : Pablo Aimar completes move to Johor Darul Takzim

Aimar penned a two-year deal with Darul Takzim.

The Southern Tigers unveiled their marquee addition earlier today, with the Argentinean play-maker set to feature for them next season onwards

Johor Darul Takzim have officially completed the transfer of Pablo Aimar, as they unveiled him in a press conference that was held earlier today.

It was already a known fact that Johor were in negotiations with Aimar's representatives, but after lengthy talks, it has now been confirmed that the experienced midfielder will be representing the Southern Tigers from next season onwards.

Aimar has signed an initial two-year contract, with an option to extend for another three years, and according to speculations, Aimar will be the highest paid foreign player in the history of Malaysian football.

The 33-year-old play maker is already a well-entrenched figure around the world, having represented the likes of Valencia, River Plate and Benfica over the years. He even featured for Benfica in the Europa League final against Chelsea last May, in which they suffered a narrow defeat to the Blues.

This move represents a massive coup for Johor football, which has been revitalized by the Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail. Besides Aimar, they have also secured the appointment of Cesar Jimenez, who previously managed Atletico Madrid, as their new head coach.

Braulio Nobrega will be their other foreign signing for next season, while several other local stars are also being linked with the big-spending Johor DT.

Per contra, their transfer activity will most likely alert other teams, who could be forced to spend in order to challenge the empire that is being constructed down south.

National U-16 record shock win over South Korea

PETALING JAYA : The national Under-16 side have put themselves in the driver’s seat for a berth in the AFC Under-16 Championship next year after recording a shock 2-0 win over favourites South Korea in a Group H qualifying match at the National Sports Complex Stadium in Vientiane, Laos, on Friday.

Striker Mohd Najmuddin Samat’s goal in the first half’s stoppage time and defender Mohd Amirul Ashraf Ariffin’s 61st minute goal earned them the win.

Malaysia are now second in the group behind Laos who both have seven points after three matches.

Laos, who beat Brunei 3-0 on Friday, lead on better goal difference.

The Malaysians, coached by S. Balachandran, were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Laos in their opening match last Saturday before they whipped Brunei 8-0 on Monday.

Malaysia will next take on bottom side Guam in their last group match on Sunday, while hosts Laos will play third-placed South Korea.

A total of 43 teams spread over 10 groups are competing in the qualifying tournament. The 10 group winners and five best second-place teams qualify for next year’s Finals in Thailand.

Suara penyokong Sang Kenari

WAN MOHD NOOR HAFIZ WAN MANSOR
19 Oktober 2013

PERLU DEDAH

Melihat situasi ini, lima gabungan kelab penyokong Kedah merancang mengadakan demonstrasi besar-besaran sekiranya Persatuan Bola Sepak Kedah (KFA), gagal mendedahkan segera perancangan bagi membina skuad Liga Premier 2014.

Hijau Kuning.Com, Kenari Fans Squad, Penyokong Setia Hijau Kuning, Ultras Kedah dan Peminat Bola Sepak Kedah antara suara penyokong Kedah yang mahukan penjelasan tersebut malah memberi KFA masa sehingga 21 Oktober ini.

TUNAI JANJI

Forces coach : Bad decision cost us

by k. rajan

Kelantan skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi (centre) was named man-of-the-match in Friday's semi-final second leg match against Armed Forces in Kota Baru, seen here tussling with Forces' Hairuddin Omar (right). - The STAR

KOTA BARU : Armed Forces coach B. Sathianathan condemned the refereeing after his side were held to a 2-2 draw by Kelantan and knocked out 4-3 on aggregate in the Malaysia Cup semi-final second-leg match in Kota Baru on Friday.

The Gladiators were cruising into the final on 3-2 aggregate with Marlon James’ first-half brace (in the 18th and 37th minutes) when the Red Warriors staged a late comeback with goals from substitute Mohd Fakri Saarani (82nd minute) and skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi (85th) to book their berth in the final.

Sathia felt that Fakri’s goal should have been disallowed by referee Nafeez Abdul Wahab as it came off a high challenge from the substitute striker on Forces’ defender Fitri Omar.

The former national coach added that his boys played very well and feels bad that they were knocked out of the competition.

“ The first goal should have been disallowed. Fakri’s leg was high and close to Fitri’s face ... it was dangerous play and it was a bookable offence, ” said a frustrated Sathia after the match.

“ That goal spoiled the game for us and I feel sad to be knocked out this way. We played well, our work rate was high and we should have scored more goals from the chances we had.

“ I will take a short break before discussing my future. I believe the Armed Forces will come back stronger next season,” he added.

Kelantan coach Bojan Hodak who will be eyeing his fifth title with the Red Warriors in the final said it was a 50-50 game and his half-time team-talk yielded the result.

The win over Forces came at a cost for the defending champions after centreback Obinna Nwaneri picked up a booking and will be suspended for the final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Nov 3.

“ Forces played a high-pressing game in midfield, while we were too casual ... they had two good chances and they managed to convert them to go ahead, ” said the Croatian.

“ However, it’s hard to maintain the pressing game and we capitalised when Forces tired out towards the end of the match.

“ I knew that we could get the result and I just pointed the mistakes the players were making and corrected them. The credit goes to Fakri who made the difference for us. ”

KLANG : A comprehensive book chronicling the life of legendary national footballer, the late Datuk Mokhtar Dahari, has hit the shelves.

Launched by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Friday, the book, titled “ Mokhtar Dahari – Lagenda Bola Sepak Malaysia ” is the first to compile and explore the life of the legendary striker who passed away on July 11, 1991, due to motor neuron disease.

“ I can say that the book is the definitive guide to who Mokhtar Dahari was, especially to the young generation,” said Mokhtar’s son Mohd Reza, who was present at the launch at Istana Alam Shah.

Mokhtar’s wife Datin Tengku Zarina Tengku Ibrahim was also present as was a number of his former team-mates and coaches – including the likes of Reduan Abdullah, Datuk Santokh Singh, Bakri Ibni, P. Gunasegaran, Ahmad Mahmud and Datuk M. Kuppan.

“ This book will hopefully inspire the young people today, so they can know who is Mokhtar Dahari and how much he was feared by opponents then.

“ I’m glad that people can now learn about what made him a legend, ” said Reduan, who played with Super Mokh in the Selangor team in the 1970s.

The book, a brainchild of the Sultan, was written by Zinitulniza Abdul Kadir and published by the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books as a tribute to the legendary footballer.

The spirit and determination of the late Mokhtar’s pursuit for greatness is compiled in the 244-page book with pictorials, including pictures from the family’s personal collections.

The book is available at major bookstores for RM180 (Peninsula) and RM195 (Sabah/Sarawak).

Ex-Sarawak star : No more ‘ madness ’ please

Bola Cafe: MALAYSIA! - Page 11 8h7h

Not cool. Sarawak fans bum-rushing the ticket counters at the State Stadium in Kuching on Thursday to get tickets for the Sarawak-Pahang semi-final second-leg match that'll kick off on Saturday. It is hoped these fans will behave themselves when the match begins. - The STAR/ Zulazhar Sheblee

PETALING JAYA : Sarawak could have won the Malaysia Cup for the first time 25 years ago.

Former Sarawak striker Pengiran Bala believes that if not for the “ moment of madness ” at the State Stadium in Kuching during the return-leg of the Malaysia Cup semi-finals in 1988, it could very well have been the year of the “ Ngap Sayot ” .

“ What happened 25 years ago should be a lesson to all, ” warned Pengiran from Miri on Friday, ahead of Sarawak’s semi-final, second leg match against Pahang on Saturday. Pahang won the first-leg 3-1.

Pengiran said that the 1988 team under Sarawak football legend Awang Mahyan should have qualified for the final after holding fancied Kedah to a goalless draw in the first-leg of the semi-finals in Alor Star.

But, barely 10 minutes into play in the return-leg in Kuching, the match was called off due to crowd invasion. The game was later played at a neutral venue in Singapore and Kedah won 1-0.

“ People are still talking about the Ngap Sayot team of 1988. We qualified for the knockout stage for the first time in the history of Sarawak football. We beat Johor 4-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

“ I remember we lost the first-leg in Larkin 2-0, the headline was ‘ The party is over ’ . But we proved them wrong and surprised everyone by thrashing Johor 4-0 in Kuching. We led 3-0 by half-time, ” he recalled.

It was Pengiran who opened the scoring before Jalil Rambly, Mohd Ali Sapiee and Burhaniza Abu Bakar put their names on the scoresheet.

In 1999, Jalil coached Sarawak and they went on to reach the Malaysia Cup final, losing 2-1 to Brunei in extra-time.

Now, the East Malaysians believe they have a fighting chance to make the final again despite the first-leg setback in Kuantan last week.

It looks like 1988 revisited as far as Pengiran is concerned.

But he hopes that “the fans will keep their cool and let the boys give it a go”.

“ It’s not impossible to overturn a two-goal deficit. It can be done with determination and self-confidence. The fans are behind the team. What is important ... the boys should go for early goals, ” said Pengiran.

Sarawak coach Robert Alberts has done a remarkable job in getting the locals to combine with the foreign signings – Bosnian striker Muamer Salibasic and Cameroon centreback Guy Bwele.

The Premier League champions have been impressive at home with 11 wins, a draw and a defeat all season.

In the Malaysia Cup, Sarawak have won all four home matches, including thrashing Super League side Perak 6-1 in the group competition and defeating Sime Darby FC 3-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Kelantan favourites in final

Kelantan skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi with the man-of-the-match trophy after leading his team to the Malaysia Cup final, beating Armed Forces 4-3 on aggregate in Kota Baru on Friday. - The STAR

KOTA BARU : Kelantan’s captain marvel Mohd Badhri Radzi was rightly named Man of the Match after he netted the equaliser to knock out Armed Forces 4-3 on aggregate in the Malaysia Cup semi-final second-leg match in Kota Baru on Friday.

Kelantan, who won the first leg 2-1, were staring at the exit after the Gladiators raced ahead with Marlon James’ first-half brace (in the 18th and 37th minute) before Mohd Fakri Saarani and Badhri struck in the 82nd and 85th minutes respectively to hold the visitors to a 2-2 draw.

The win casts the defending champions as favourites to retain the Malaysia Cup in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Nov 3.

Late goals have become the norm for the East Coast giants as they have scored 28% of their goals this season in the final 15 minutes of the match.

And the 32-year-old Pengkalan Chepa local credited the comeback win to his team-mates’ determination, saying he always believed that his team could overturn the deficit.

The charismatic skipper added that qualifying for the Malaysia Cup final is a great achievement and he has set his sights on retaining the title.

“ We never give up ... more so if we are playing at home in front of our fans, ” said Badhri after the match.

“ I have to thank the fans for giving us the support and motivation. Their cheers and chants kept us going.

“ Everyone in the team played with high spirits and gave their best so I was confident that we could turn our fortunes around. ”

Fadhli Shas & Irfan Fazail (2013 Johor Darul Takzim FC)

Southern Tigers luring in young blood with the signing of Fadhli Shas and Irfan Fazail

After a month of speculation, Johor Darul Takzim finally announced the signing of Harimau Muda players Fadhli Shas and Irfan Fazail in an unveiling session earlier today. The duo had been in the outfit's radar for quite sometime, as they both had originated from the state of Johor, although they are still eligible to play for the under-23 national side for at least another year.

The Football Association of Johor president, Tengku Ismail also added that they are also in the midst of a negotiation with another Harimau Muda player and Johor native; Fandi Othman.

PETALING JAYA : The FA of Selangor (FAS) have signed former star player Mehmet Durakovic as head coach of the Super League squad for next season.

A source in FAS said that the 48-year-old former Australian player had signed the deal a couple of days ago and would begin work on Nov 15.

Mehmet is no stranger to Malaysian football having led the Red Giants to win the Malaysia Cup for three consecutive seasons from 1995-97.

Selangor are desperate for success in the domestic competition after three fruitless seasons. Former Selangor coach Irfan Bakti had left the state team mid-way through the Malaysia Cup this season.

Irfan had reportedly signed up for Felda United next season.

New Perak head coach announced

Abu was a former player for Perak from 1991-2003.

The head coach for Perak's President's Cup side, Abu Bakar Fadzim, will take over the helm of the state's senior team in 2014.

Abu Bakar Fadzim, 43, has been named as the new head coach for Perak after Azraai Khor resigned from his position two days ago.

The Perak Football Association (PAFA) made the news public on Monday via its President Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin who feels that it was the right time to name a former player to take over the helm at Ipoh.

He told Bernama: “ Immediately upon his appointment, I have asked [Abu Bakar] to identify players to represent the state, including foreign players. ”

Forty-three-year-old Abu had an amazing 12-year tenure with the Seladangs as a player since 1991 and he has experience in leading Perak’s President’s Cup team to second place, and Zainol is confident of his bold decision.

“ Though the appointment came as a surprise, I feel that this is the best opportunity for me to feel the real challenge in football as a coach,” Abu said after he was announced as the new Perak head coach.

With regards to Azraai’s premature departure from the team, Zainol added that Abu’s arrival is in no way a resolution for the issue between PAFA and the former coach as his contract is only due to end in October 2014.

“ Azraai has had a discussion with PAFA deputy President Khairul Azwan Harun about him wanting to leave the team but we haven't reached a final decision on his terms of contract, ” Zainol concluded.
