| All plaudits go to Nicol again as Azlan fails to meet expectationsMonday July 25, 2011 PETALING JAYA: The just ended CIMB Malaysian Open saw Malaysian squash queen Nicol David capture her seventh successive Malaysian Open title and third title of the year. The tournament also showcased the fact that the Malaysian men performed far below expectations with the biggest letdown being national No. 1 Mohd Azlan Iskandar who crashed out in the quarter-finals. In a way it wasn’t really a surprise because Nicol, who turns 28 next month, is a real phenomenon and is the best player in women’s squash. Besides being an incredibly talented and hard-to-beat player, Nicol is also stubborn and gritty on court as was evident in Saturday’s final against England’s Jenny Duncalf, the second ranked player in the world. Trailing 7-10 at one point in the second set against Duncalf, Nicol managed to reel off five straight points to wrap up the set, leaving Duncalf deflated and demotivated for the third set. “It was a real disappointment all right. “I needed the second set but when you’re playing Nicol you can’t get too comfortable or rush things because she’s just so good. “In the end, I lost it and was left with a huge mountain to climb in the third set,” said Duncalf after her loss to Nicol. To be fair to Duncalf, she played really well too and the final was truly a wonderful exhibition of squash between two of the best players in the world with Nicol just having the reserves to go that extra mile. In fact, the women’s event for the Malaysian Open was elevated to a World Series ranking by the Women’s International Squash Players Association (Wispa) earlier this year and it featured nine of the top 10 players in the world. En route to Saturday’s final, Nicol defeated Donna Urquhard (No.13) of Australia, England’s Laura Massaro (No.7) and Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy (No. . Except for dropping a set against Massaro, five-time world champion Nicol made light work of her opponents and made it look all so easy. And that just about sums Nicol’s current good form and she is capable of claiming a sixth world title at the Women’s World Open later this year at Rotterdam, Holland, and become the best player in women’s squash. But for now, Nicol will happily take in the victory of winning her 53rd Wispa title while she sets her sights on title No. 54 in the Singapore Masters which begins today. http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2011/7/25/sports/9165951&sec=sports | |

| Sepaktakraw: Thailand proved too strong for Malaysia
2011/07/25 Fadhli Ishak fadhli@nstp.com.my
THERE was not much to cheer for the Malaysian fans at Titiwangsa Stadium yesterday as Thailand tore apart the national side in the inaugural Sepaktakraw World Cup final. Malaysia started off the match nervously with tekong Noor Azman Abdul Hamid netting numerous serves and found it hard to return Thai tekong Siriwat Sakha's sharp, driven serves and lost the game 15-4.
The second game saw national coach Jamaluddin Hassan replacing error-prone Noor Azman with Syazwan Husin while trailing 2-6.
Syazwan proved to be a marginal improvement but his efforts were not enough to stop them losing 15-6.
Malaysia play more fluidly in the third game and managed to match Thailand point-for-point in the earlier stages until Thailand replaced the tiring Siriwat with Kriangkrai Kaewmian at 9 all.
Kriangkrai's variation and well-disguised serves broke the Malaysian's rhythm. Thailand soon won 15-4, 15-6, 15-11.
Thai coach Kamol Tankimhong said: "It is quite often that a home side gets nervous playing in front of their supporters and it was clearly affecting Malaysia's performance today."
National coach Jamaluddin said his side clearly have much work to do if they are to have any chance of beating Thailand in future tournaments.
"This tournament has shown us that we clearly need to improve on the consistency and pace of our serves as that was one of the major reasons we lost."
Thailand were also crowned women's champions after beating Vietnam 15-7, 15-2, 15-7 in a repeat of last year's Asian Games final.
The national women's team were bundled out in the semi-finals by Vietnam 15-5, 12-15, 15-4, 15-5.
Thailand received US$8,000 (RM26,880) as men's champions while Malaysia took home RM13,440 as runners-up. The Thai women won RM16,800 while Vietnam received RM8,400. Read more: Sepaktakraw: Thailand proved too strong for Malaysia http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/12d123d/Article/#ixzz1T4jOqCas

| Malaysia was a fair opponent to Thai's in Sepak Takraw, but yesterday we are too easy to be beaten like that!
that Thai's spiker (pelibas) can read every blocking made by our player, his spike goes around the blocker as if he stop and watch how he would react!
grrr! | |
