US soldiers face fast-food ban

New soldiers expecting U.S. Army drill sergeants to bust their chops over poor posture or a wayward gaze may instead want to avoid a more modern military transgression: relying on fast food for sustenance.

The Army plans to get new recruits into better shape with a revamped approach to health, fitness and diet at basic training.
The most visible changes will be seen in mess halls, where milk and juice dispensers will replace soda fountains and whole grains will be substituted for white bread and pasta.

Army leaders were unveiling the new approach Wednesday morning at Missouri's Fort Leonard Wood. It's the first substantial change to basic fitness training in the Army in 30 years.

"We are seeing many soldiers entering our profession who need phased conditioning methods and improved nutritional habits," said Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, of the Army's Training and Doctrine Command.

The "soldier athlete" initiative is designed to prepare new recruits with training methods similar to those offered to elite athletes preparing for competition.

That means more attention on injury prevention, flexibility and mobility, coordination and aerobic endurance, as well as healthy eating. Drill sergeants will include one-hour sessions on performance nutrition in addition to their traditional responsibilities.

Army leaders report fewer injuries and higher scores on physical fitness tests at bases where the new program has been tested. - AP

Britain jual kapal induk pengangkut

LONDON 1 Dis.

- Reuters

Iran forces on alert as economic 'surgery' begins...

TEHRAN, Iran – Security forces flooded Iran's capital in a warning against possible unrest as fuel prices surged 400 percent Sunday under plans to sharply cut government subsides and ease pressure on an economy struggling with international sanctions.

The so-called economic "surgery" has been planned for months, but was repeatedly delayed over worries of a repeat of gas riots in 2007 and serious political infighting during the standoff with the West over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

Lockheed buys stake in UAE aircraft repair firm

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates: An aircraft maintenance company set up by the oil-rich Abu Dhabi government says U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin has taken an equity stake in the firm.

The Persian Gulf state's Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Center said Sunday Lockheed will own the same amount of the company as United Technologies' Sikorsky Aerospace Services division.

Financial details weren't disclosed. AMMROC puts the total investment in the project at more than $800 million.

A division of Abu Dhabi's Mubadala investment company created AMMROC last July in partnership with Sikorsky. It aims to create jobs for Emirati citizens and provide aircraft maintenance to the UAE armed forces and other regional militaries. - AP

64 missile warheads stolen from Romanian train

By ALINA WOLFE-MURRAY - Associated Press | AP – 1 hr 43 mins ago

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Dozens of small, old rocket warheads were stolen from a train carrying military equipment from Romania to Bulgaria, officials said Monday,
Authorities promised that the 64 warheads posed no danger to the public but offered varying explanations why.
The Romanian national police said there was no risk because they were not attached to rockets. Spokesman Florin Hulea declined to provide further details.
Two daily newspapers cited officials close to the investigation as saying that the warheads did not contain explosives. The papers, Evenimentul Zilei and Adevarul, did not identify their sources.
Bulgaria's Economy Ministry said the warheads belonged to 122mm (4.8-inch)-diameter Grad rockets, which are typically fired from vehicle-mounted multiple-rocket launchers.
It said in a statement the shipment was part of a transfer of "nonfunctional components and parts" for reprocessing at the VMZ factory — one of Bulgaria's largest military factories — in Sopot, central Bulgaria, where the components and parts were to be replaced and the warheads prepared for sale.
"The fuzes (warheads) were transported separately from the projectiles," the ministry added.
Transport police in the central city of Brasov told the Mediafax news agency that the warheads were in four boxes in one of the cars on a train carrying equipment from a Romanian company that produces artillery shells and ground-to-ground and air-to-ground missiles.
Romanian officials also tried to portray the Saturday theft as accidental. Eugen Badalan, a member of the parliamentary defense committee, said the thieves "had no idea what they stole," and prosecutors said they were investigating whether the components were stolen by scrap metal thieves.
However, only one of the eight cars on the 27-car train was broken into.
Mediafax reported that railway workers noticed the seals on a carriage door were broken, and the door was not properly closed, when the train reached Giurgiu, a Danube port that borders Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Defense Ministry confirmed in a press release that the recipient of the fuzes was a Bulgarian company, not its armed forces. It said the Interior Ministry's Dangerous Weapons Control Service had issued a permit for the transport of the delivery.
The train was loaded on Friday and stopped under guard overnight in the central Romanian town of Brasov, about 166 km (103 miles) north of Bucharest, according to transport police. After leaving Saturday, it stopped for one hour in the mountain resort of Predeal,
Romanian national state company Romarm said the Bulgarian company was responsible for train security.

Post by anya8797 Sat 23 Jul 2011, 11:09 am

- BERNAMA - Credit to Berita Harian

Panggil Black Hawk, nak pungut 5 mayat. Black Hawk pula jatuh dan ranap. 9 mati.

22 Julai - 3 hari cari pakai orang asli dan panjat gunung, jumpa mayat. Panggil lagi satu heli, Bell 212, nak angkut mayat. Enjin rosak dan jatuh. Satu selamat, 2 atau 3 mati.
