:: Production of K2 Tank to Start Soon ::
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The production of the homegrown K2 Black Panther main battle tank will begin soon after a one-year delay due to a problem with the tank’s “power pack” transmission system, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Monday.
A set of field tests have shown that the domestically-built power pack, which is comprised of a 1,500-horsepower, 12-cylinder diesel engine and transmission, is now good to go, a DAPA official said.
“We’ve been informed that all the minor glitches of the K2 power pack have been taken care of and now there are no problems,” the official said. “We’ll sign a production deal with manufacturers concerned as soon as possible.” The advanced battle tank will be operational for use by the Army by the end of next year at the earliest, he said.
Originally, the production of some 390 K2 tanks was scheduled to begin early this year to replace the Army’s K1 tanks and its aging M48 Patton tanks.
Unveiled in 2007, the K2, developed by the state-funded Agency for Defense Development and Hyundai Rotem, is a major defense product to fulfill domestic needs and sales overseas. The K2 technology was exported to Turkey years ago.
The K2 carries a three-person crew supported by an auto-loading system, and a locally-developed 120-millimeter/55-caliber stabilized smoothbore gun. The fully-digitalized vehicle has an electric gun/turret driving system, automatic sensor input and power monitoring and control system.
Its 1,500-horsepower engine can power the tank to 70 kilometers per hour on paved roads and 50 kilometers off-road. It can cross rivers as deep as 4.1 meters, a considerable improvement over the K1 and K1A1, and fire as soon as it resurfaces.

Kenaikan pangkat Pegawai bukan Melayu.

Bar Council slams RMAF for ‘blatant demand’
PETALING JAYA: The Bar Council has slammed the alleged demand by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for a lawyer to surrender his client or risk facing criminal proceedings.
N. Surendran is acting for suspended RMAF Sergeant N. Tharmendran, 42, who is jointly accused in the theft of two jet engines. The case is currently in court.
Demanding that RMAF immediately withdraw its demand, Bar Council president Ragunath Kesavan called it an “intimidatory manoeuvre that encroaches upon the ability of a lawyer to perform his duties effectively”.
“RMAF’s blatant demand that Surendran advises his client to surrender, failing which he should turn his client in or otherwise face potential criminal proceedings, is an explicit and unambiguous threat.
“The Bar is outraged at this act of coercion which is an intolerable incursion on the independence of the Bar and the freedom that a lawyer must have to advise and act for clients without fear or favour.
“RMAF’s offensive order, in writing, seeks to fetter Surendran’s duty to his client, as it suggests that a lawyer should act in his own personal interest, rather than in his client’s best interest,” Ragunath said in a statement yesterday.
Any comments, Ven?

Re: MPSA @ News
mean cara penangkapan n pengadilan? Tangkapan leh dibuat oleh MP, Provos or Polis sendiri secara biasa or kekerasan coz ingkar perintah... personal akan diadili di mahkamah tentera (kalau x terlibat kesalahan civil), kalau ada kesalahan civil, dia kena adili di both mahkamah... selalunya bila bab2 peguam civil, kalah skit power peguam tentera, maklumler kita bukan pandai auta2 mcm dorang...
Re: MPSA @ News
ni bukan aper tau.. civvy mmg blur bab military law ni.. so, itu bar council sudah spin mau tunjuk TUDM ganggu peguam anggota yg AWOL.. sedangkan sesapa yg nyorok kan anggota AWOL tu mmg salah di sisi undang-undang..
kalu bleh, tuan ven kasik tempel laaa itu undang2 @ akta yg kasik kuasa tuk dakwa mereka2 yg subahat sembunyikan tau simpan maklumat anggota AWOL..

TLDM bina kapal tempur dengan peluru berpandu
2010/11/04

'Flying Squad' perbaiki kelemahan Imigresen
Oleh Haika Khazi
mfaizul@bharian.com.my
2010/11/04

Gates heads to Australia, Malaysia to bolster defence ties
WASHINGTON: US Defence Secretary Robert Gates departs Friday for Australia and Malaysia to bolster defence ties amid concern in the region over China's growing economic and naval power.
Gates will join Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and top US military officer Admiral Mike Mullen at an annual US-Australia conference of ministers in Melbourne next week before heading to Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell told a news conference.
Talks in Melbourne will underscore the strength of the US alliance with Australia and address efforts to help regional partners with "maritime security" in Asia, said Morrell.
US officials often employ the phrase "maritime security" to refer to concerns about China's assertive stance over territorial rights in the Pacific, particularly in the South China Sea.
The meeting would offer a chance to assess "the vital role our military partnership continues to play in Asia's overall security environment," he said.
Both American and Australian officials have voiced worries about China's tough line on territorial disputes with Asian neighbours in the Pacific as well as its increased defence spending.
US military leaders are especially concerned over China's investment in anti-ship missiles and submarines that could limit the reach of the US Navy, which has long dominated the Pacific Ocean.
The meeting in Melbourne was originally scheduled for January this year but the devastating earthquake in Haiti led both Gates and Clinton to cancel their plans to help with the humanitarian crisis.
The US defence secretary's discussions in Melbourne would also focus on the war effort in Afghanistan, where Australia has deployed about 1,500 troops mainly in the south, Morrell said.
Gates was due on Tuesday to fly to Malaysia, where he will meet Prime Minister Najib Razak and Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in the latest sign of improving relations after years of strained ties between the two countries.
The talks will address "our strengthening bilateral military ties," following an expansion in joint exercises in recent years, Morrell said.
President Barack Obama's administration has praised Malaysia for its decision this year to deploy a medical unit to Afghanistan and for its cooperation in efforts to secure the Malacca Strait, a vital channel for oil to East Asian countries.
Coming after Clinton's visit to Malaysia this week, Gates' trip marked "yet another signal of our deepening relationship with Malaysia," Morrel said.

Three RMAF planes leave to bring back stranded Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Three RMAF Hercules C-130 aircraft left Sunday for Indonesia to bring back over 664 Malaysians stranded in Yogyakarta following eruptions of the Mount Merapi volcano. Two of the aircraft flew off from the RMAF base in Subang near here and the third from Labuan airbase, said the director of the Malaysian Education Department in Indonesia, Datuk Dr Junaidy Abu Bakar.
Each of the aircraft can carry 120 people at a time and the planes are expected to make more than one trip.
Dr Junaidy said the aircraft from Labuan was to have left Saturday but had to postpone the trip because it did not have clearance to land at the Solo airport due to volcanic ash in the air.
He said 360 people were expected to be flown from Solo to Subang at about 5pm Sunday.
"The rest will be flown back tomorrow (Monday)," he said when approached at the Subang RMAF airbase before flying off to Indonesia in one of the C-130 aircraft.
Dr Junaidy advised parents of Malaysian students in Yogyakarta who would also be flown back to remain calm as their children were safe.
"We have placed their children in hostels, and they are safe," he said.
