ThalesRaytheonSystems signs contract for Malaysian Air Defense Ground Environment upgrade using new digital radar

Monday April 21, 2008

MASSY, France & FULLERTON, Calif., (April 21st , 2008) – ThalesRaytheonSystems has been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Defense, Government of Malaysia, to upgrade the Malaysian Air Defense Ground Environment system. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. The upgrade will create a new Air Defense Sector Operations Center and includes the installation of one new long-range air defense radar.

The SOC command and control software will be an adaptation of the Sentry® Air Defense Ground Environment System developed by ThalesRaytheonSystems in Fullerton, Calif. Sentry is also the basis for the Battle Control System recently declared operational by the U.S. Air Force and Canadian Air Force for the air defense of the North American continent.

The long-range air defense radar, will be delivered by ThalesRaytheonSystems in France. It is part of a new family of high- medium- and low-altitude digital radars that provides unmatched detection performances as well as an outstanding operational availability.

The radar is perfectly adapted to overcome the challenges of the Malaysian country, which is characterized by its tropical environment and the need to operate simultaneously over mountainous terrain, costal plains, and oceanic approaches.

This award continues the long history of cooperation between ThalesRaytheonSystems and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, which dates back to the installation of the first automated command and control system for the RMAF in Butterworth.

Turut hadir, Pengerusi Jemaah Tertinggi Bakat, Puan Sri Asnah Din.

Former Warship To Become Lumut Tourist Attraction
June 01, 2011 22:33 PM

IPOH, June 1 (Bernama) -- Lumut is set to have a new tourist attraction in the form of a decommissioned Royal Malaysian Navy warship.

Perak senior state executive councillor Datuk Hamidah Osman said the former KD Rahmat would be converted into a living museum to enable visitors to glean what life was like for its former crew members.

She said the museum project was expected to be ready in August.

Speaking to reporters here Wednesday, she said a company, Plus Asiajaya (Perak) Sdn Bhd, would rehabilitate the ship.

"The project will further spur tourism activity in Manjung district," she said.

Hamidah had earlier witnessed the contract signing between the state government and the company which will invest RM150 million in the project.

The scheme also involves the construction of a hotel, convention centre, commercial centre as well as a floating restaurant.

KD Rahmat was decommissioned in 2003.

Ministries, Enforcement Agencies Must Use Local Products - Zahid

07 Juni 2011

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - All ministries and government agencies involved in defence and enforcement will soon be required to use products made by local companies.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this was decided upon at the 2/2011 meeting of the Defence Industry Council, Enforcement and Security, here, today.

The meeting, chaired by Ahmad Zahid, was also attended by Royal Malaysian Air Force chief Tan Sri Rozali Daud, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar and Army deputy chief Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.

"We've decided that the Defence Ministry, Home Ministry and enforcement agencies must use local products," he told reporters after the meeting.

He said the measure could further strengthen the country's defence system.

Ahmad Zahid said the meeting also decided that any contract to purchase equipment by the Finance Ministry must be made directly with the manufacturer, and no longer through a trading company to prevent the company from reaping high commission to the extent of burdening the manufacturer.

He said the meeting also requested the Finance Ministry to implement a central contract system to avoid competition among the defence and security industry players.

Malaysia, meanwhile, he said, had received confirmation from Asean defence ministers to implement a common standard called the Asean Standard in producing defence systems and equipment.

"Products produced by Malaysia or other Asean countries will be of the Asean Standard. Therefore, Asean countries will not be competing among themselves but with other producing countries using the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Standard," he said.

At a defence industry seminar held in Jakarta in May, Ahmad Zahid had proposed that Asean countries create the Asean Standard in the production of defence equipment and systems for successful collaboration among them.

Submarine Participation the Highlight of 17th U.S. – Malaysia CARAT Exercise

By Lt. Cmdr. Mike Morley, Commander Task Force 73 public affairs

Posted: June 8, 2011

KUANTAN, Malaysia - The arrival of four U.S. Navy ships to Kuantan marks the beginning of the 17th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Malaysia exercise. For the first time in the exercise’s 17-year history, a U.S. attack submarine is participating, enabling U.S. and Malaysian forces to conduct expanded at-sea training.

The first phase of CARAT features events ashore, such as engineering and damage control training exchanges, joint medical, dental and civic action projects, and joint community service projects at local schools.

The at-sea phase of CARAT focuses on developing maritime security capabilities in areas such as maritime interdiction, information sharing, combined operations at sea, patrols and gunnery exercises, and anti-piracy and anti-smuggling exercises.

“We’re looking forward to operating at sea with the Royal Malaysian Navy ships,” said Capt. David Welch, Commander, Task Group 73.1 and the Commander for the exercise.

“The U.S. Navy and RMN have developed a robust training plan, and we expect both Navies will learn a lot more about each other throughout the exercise, but particularly at sea. The addition of a submarine will enable us to expand on training we’ve completed in previous years and will increase our interoperability,” he said.

Approximately 1,800 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel are participating in CARAT Malaysia 2011, which runs June 5th through June 15th. U.S. Navy ships from Task Group 73.1 include the amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46), the guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83), the frigate USS Ford (FFG 54), and U.S. attack submarine.

Additional participants include Marines from 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines, U.S. Navy Seabees, and P-3C Orion and SH-60 Seahawk aircraft.

CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the Armed Forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Additionally, Vietnam participates in a CARAT-like skills exchange.

Eksesais 10 hari tingkat kerjasama ketenteraan

Hadir sama Komander Kumpulan Logistik Pasifik Barat (COMLOG WESTPAC), Laksamana Muda Thomas F. Carney.

Tujuh selebriti sertai Wataniah

Oleh SYUKRI SHAARI
pengarang@utusan.com.my

sure diorang lalok punyer
